When someone loses confidence in their own body, after a fall, a stroke, a hip replacement, or years of reduced movement, the impact goes well beyond the physical. Physiotherapy at home helps rebuild that confidence in the place where it matters most: the environment where your loved one actually lives, moves and spends their days.
What is Physiotherapy?
Home-based physiotherapy involves a qualified physiotherapist assessing and treating mobility, strength, balance and pain in the client's own home. Unlike a clinic, the physiotherapist can see the actual stairs, the bathroom layout, the garden steps, and design treatment that addresses the real environment, not a simulated one. Treatment includes exercise prescription, falls risk assessment, rehabilitation after surgery or illness, and neurological physiotherapy for conditions like Parkinson's disease and stroke.
What's included
Who benefits from this service?
Physiotherapy at home is appropriate for clients recovering from orthopaedic surgery, stroke, falls or injuries; those with progressive neurological conditions; people with chronic musculoskeletal pain; and any older adult who is deconditioned or at elevated falls risk.
How it works
Initial assessment
The practitioner conducts a comprehensive in-home assessment, understanding your goals, current function and the specific challenges in your home environment.
Treatment or management plan
A tailored plan is developed with you, what we're working on, how we'll measure progress and how often we'll visit.
Regular sessions
Scheduled visits for treatment or management, with exercises or strategies for between visits where appropriate.
Goal review and progress
Progress is reviewed regularly. When goals are achieved, we plan for maintaining gains independently or transitioning to a maintenance programme.
🩺 Clinical note: Falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalisation in Australians over 65. Evidence strongly supports home-based physiotherapy as one of the most effective falls prevention interventions.
