Your questions, answered honestly.

We believe you deserve straight answers, not brochure language. If your question isn't here, call us.

My parent refuses to accept help, what do we do?

+

This is by far the most common situation families come to us with, and there is no quick fix. What we find works is starting very small, sometimes just a social visit or help with one task the person already finds frustrating. The goal is familiarity before dependency. We are happy to talk through this with you before any care begins, and we can advise on how to have the conversation in a way that respects your parent's autonomy.

What actually happens during a visit?

+

It depends on what's in the care plan, but a typical personal care visit might involve helping with a morning shower and dressing, preparing breakfast, a brief tidy of the kitchen, and a conversation before leaving. Carers follow the care plan, but they also respond to what's actually happening on the day, if someone is having a hard morning, good care looks different to a routine one.

How quickly can care start?

+

If your loved one has existing Support at Home approval, care can begin within days of our initial assessment. If they are waiting for government assessment, we can arrange privately-funded care to start immediately, with the option to transition to funded care once approved.

How do I know if my parent qualifies for home care funding?

+

Most Australians aged 65 and over (or 50 and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) are eligible for a government-funded assessment. Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to get started. We are happy to walk you through the process, just call us on 0491 188 476.

What if we don't like the carer, can we request someone different?

+

Yes, and please do tell us if something isn't right. We would rather know early and make a change than have a client feel uncomfortable. We take carer matching seriously and will work to find a better fit quickly.

What happens if my regular carer is sick?

+

We maintain a pool of carers who are familiar with each client so substitutions are made with someone the client already knows. You will always be notified before the change, not after.

Is there a minimum number of hours or visits per week?

+

No minimum. Some clients see us daily, others once a fortnight. We build the schedule around what is actually needed, not around filling a quota.

Can I trial the service before committing?

+

Absolutely. There are no lock-in agreements. You can start with a single visit and decide from there.

What is the cancellation policy?

+

We ask for at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a visit without charge. For less notice, a cancellation fee may apply, this is set out clearly in your service agreement. Genuine emergencies are always considered on a case-by-case basis.

What happens after hours or in an emergency?

+

During business hours (Mon–Fri 8am–6pm, Sat–Sun 9am–5pm) call us on 0491 188 476. For life-threatening emergencies, always call 000 first. After-hours clinical contacts are documented in your care plan.

How is home care funded?

+

Home care can be funded through the Australian Government's Support at Home program, which covers most or all costs depending on your assessed needs and income, or privately. We can explain both options when we speak.

Do I have to pay anything out of pocket for nursing services?

+

Clinical nursing and allied health services attract no personal out-of-pocket co-contribution under the Support at Home program, fully funded from your government budget regardless of income.

Is a doctor's referral needed to start?

+

No. You can contact us directly. If you are pursuing government funding through My Aged Care, a GP can be helpful in supporting your application, but it is not a prerequisite.

What is the difference between home care and residential aged care?

+

Home care means receiving professional support in your own home, maintaining your independence, routines and environment. With good quality home care, most people can remain at home for far longer than families expect.
